History of the Award

In February of 2007, during the Mid-Year meeting, the first suggestion was made to offer a $100 lifetime membership.  Back then, regular dues were $14/annually.  While no action was taken then, the subject was tabled for a few years.  

Later in September of 2010, during the Annual Meeting, a motion was passed to increase the annual dues to $20.  Another suggestion was made for adopting a lifetime membership, but again no action was taken.

In January of 2011, a motion was passed to adopt three levels of dues; “Regular”, “Reduced” & “Donation”.  It wasn’t until July of 2013, when a motion was passed during a Steering Committee Meeting, to offer members a lifetime option for paying dues in the amount of $100.

At the Annual Meeting in September of 2013, the Steering Committee presented Helen Sitchler with the very first Honorary Lifetime Member Award for her “Extraordinary service, attendance, and dedication to GSA” as it is written on her certificate.

Over the years, many more extraordinary women have received this honor for their continuous contributions of time in the form of volunteering, energy, passion and dedication for Girl Scouting and GSA.
